Budgam, Sep 09 (KNO): Three houses were damaged in a fire that broke out during the night in Khan Mohalla, Gurwait area of Budgam district, leaving six families homeless, officials said.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the fire spread rapidly and engulfed the residential structures within a short span of time. Although locals attempted to douse the flames and Fire and Emergency Services personnel were called to the spot, the blaze caused extensive damage to the property and household belongings.
Following the incident, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Khansahib, Shri Jahangir Ahmad Giri, visited the fire-affected families at Khan Mohalla, Gurwait, and took stock of the situation and losses suffered by them.
During the visit, the SDM met the affected families and, as an immediate measure, provided relief kits and blankets to help meet their immediate needs. He expressed solidarity with the affected families and assured them that the administration would extend all possible assistance and relief as per the prescribed rules and procedures.
The SDM was accompanied by concerned officials from the civil administration and other departments, who assessed the situation and took necessary measures to extend assistance to the affected families.
The cause of the fire is being ascertained, while the exact extent of property loss is also being assessed, officials said—(KNO)
